Akoa Mongo first came to Maine in 1971 to study at Bangor Theological Seminary. He then continued his education at University of Maine Orono where he got a degree in Foreign Languages and a PhD. in Education. He has taught high school (French, Latin and Spanish) and has been a minister for many of the years that have followed. Reverend Akoa Mongo has also written 36 books on religion and culture.
Currently, he is working to raise funds to send a container of medical supplies to his home country of Cameroon where medical providers and equipment are in extremely short supply. Partners for World Health is a non-profit organization in Maine that collects unwanted medical supplies and distributes them to countries in need, also providing medical missions to the receiving countries. is working with volunteer-run PWH to make this medical exchange happen, explaining that it is his wish to give back after all he has been given over the course of his lifetime.
He and his wife live Downeast in Machiasport, ME.
