046 Deng Kuon

Deng was born in South Sudan, and grew up in three UN refugee camps in Ethopia (Dimma, Bonga, and Pugnido).  He and his brother arrived in the United States last June.  Deng speaks five languages and has a passion for education and a deep gratitude for God.  He hopes to study public health here in Maine and apply what he learns to his community back in South Sudan one day.

045 Luca Pizzuti

Luca was raised in Rome, Italy, went to chef school for five years and opened his first restaurant.  Later he came to the US on vacation, met his beloved wife and started a family.  He runs Roma Pizza in OOB and Kennebunkport and takes great pride in crafting delicious pizzas. 

Music: "Amore" by Dean Martin and "Falling in Love" by Elvis Presley.

044 Namory Keita

Namory Keita was born into a family of farmers and drummers in Guinea, West Africa.  He started to learn traditional drumming from his cousin at the age of 7 and followed the example of his world famous uncle as he returned to drumming after attending school in a nearby village for a number of years.
Namory finds a spiritual connection to the world through his drumming.  He regularly sees and genuinely appreciates how drumming brings people together and heals individuals and communities with joy.

Music: Intro is "Kadiaa" (meaning "Sweetness") from his CD Kolafolo.  He also plays two songs LIVE, in the studio, on this recording.

043 Nyawal Lia

Nyawal Lia is from South Sudan.  After spending seven years in a refugee camp in Ethiopia she and her family moved to the US in 2001. 

Nyawal attended Portland Public Schools from third grade through high school.  She is presently a student at USM studying political science and taking every opportunity she can to organize  and engage in civic activities.
