Josephine was born in South Sudan and lived an affluent life with her large extended family before the war began. When violence divided her family she and some loved ones walked to Uganda where they lived a dramatically different life in a refugee camp for nine years before being reunited with family in Portland, ME in 1995. She attended King Middle School, Portland High School and then the University of Southern Maine where she pursued a wide array of interests and got her bachelor's degree in Social Work.
Josephine, mother of two, is also the Chief leader of the South Sudan Acholi Community in Portland--the first woman to hold this post.
