Stacy-Ann left Kingston, Jamaica and arrived in Maine early in 2006 when she and her son joined her parents in the Portland area. She loves working with people as a medical assistant and brings her warm and personable energy to whatever she does. Not having had the option to continue her education in Jamaica made it that much sweeter, here, where she can continue to learn and pursue her dream of becoming a nurse. Music: Bob Marley, "Smile Jamaica."
John Muthyala was born into an academic family in Hyderabad, India. He was among the last of the students in the region to be educated by British and American missionaries. John completed his PhD in Chicago and came to Maine in 2001. Currently he is a professor of English at the University of Southern Maine. Professor Muthyala leads the Digital Humanities Initiative at USM and is the Principal Investigator of Digital Maine, a digital humanities project that creatively integrates digital technologies to articulate social, cultural, and environmental themes related to Maine. This non-traditional use of technology is a collaborative process applied across many disciplines and departments; it links humanities research and creativity with the work of technology companies, non-profit organizations, and small and big businesses to order to generate new knowledge, methods, and ideas to revitalize the cultural and economic sectors of Maine. Music: John Muthyala sings "Katrina" (electronic version), a song he wrote and produced in the wake of Hurricane Katrina to raise civic awareness and send volunteer groups from Maine to New Orleans and the Gulf Coast to help in the rebuilding effort.
