238 Brian Evans-Jones

Brian was the Poet Laureate of Hampshire, England in 2012-2013.  In 2014 he and his young family moved to South Berwick, Maine.   Brian earned an MFA in poetry from UNH in 2017.  His poetry has appeared in magazines, competitions, and art shows in America and in Britain.   

Before Covid, Brian could be found visiting schools all over the state through the Maine Arts Council's Leadership Initiative.  He has also coached and judged the high school Poetry Out Loud competition.  Brian is now offering an online forum called Poetry Parlor.  It is a membership club where people can have access to learning together, getting feedback on their poetry and individual reviews from Brian, as well.  www.brianevansjones.com.

Emma is originally from the United Kingdom and moved to Maine in 2011.  In her adult life she found a beautiful way of expressing herself through jewelry making.  
Now Emma has become a Creativity Coach so she can help other people to find ways to mindfully express themselves through whatever they create.  Doing work around values and beliefs helps clients to understand their reason for being and frees people up to express themselves clearly.  You can learn more about her practice on her coaching website.

131 Janet Andoh

Janet was born in London, England, educated in Accra, Ghana and then moved back to Surrey in London where she became a sought-after soft furnishings designer.  In 2003 her husband's job brought them to South Portland, ME where she has continued her business called Alpha Decor and added millinery (hat making) to her skill set.  See her hats at ByAlpha Couture. 
Community minded, Janet has helped to organize and promote some upcoming events which she highlights during this show:
International Women's Day Gala and Fashion Show on March 4th at the Italian Heritage Center.
Empower the Immigrant Woman at USM's Portland campus on March 18th.

114 Caroline Sample

Caroline was born and raised in Croydon, England.  A teacher since 1973, Caroline had classrooms on three continents.  In 2014 she retired from teaching English and Social Studies to English Language Learners (ELL) at Lewiston High School.

Coming from a country where police don't carry firearms she understood her students concerns about the high levels of gun violence in US culture.  Many refugees and asylum seekers have fled horrible violence and hope to find more peace in Maine. She discusses the upcoming referendum question (Question 3) which supports background checks for people buying guns.  (FMI: Mainers for Responsible Gun Ownership). 

Caroline serves on the Board of Managers for Gateway Community Services.  This organization supports refugees and asylees to process the substantial traumas and losses sustained previously.

Additionally, Caroline is involved with Wabanaki REACH and is not only mindful of the needs of Maine's newest residents but also the indigenous people of this state.

082 Clare Morin

Clare Morin was born in Blackburn, England and at the age of two her family moved to Hong Kong. She grew up in the British colony attending international schools and speaking English. She learned rudimentary Cantonese and continues to study Mandarin. After Hong Kong returned to China in 1997, Clare returned to the city to work as an arts writer for newspapers and magazines. 
Clare works as a freelance writer, editor and publicist. She is a volunteer with the Serlingpa Meditation Center, a non-profit Buddhist organization where she teaches weekly meditation classes. In 2014, Clare helped to co-found the Yaji arts series in Portland, organized by Fox Intercultural Consulting. These salon-type gatherings connect artists from East and West over tea. Clare and her husband have lived in Portland since 2009.
