Professor Muthyala leads the Digital Humanities Initiative at USM and is the Principal Investigator of Digital Maine, a digital humanities project that creatively integrates digital technologies to articulate social, cultural, and environmental themes related to Maine. This non-traditional use of technology is a collaborative process applied across many disciplines and departments; it links humanities research and creativity with the work of technology companies, non-profit organizations, and small and big businesses to order to generate new knowledge, methods, and ideas to revitalize the cultural and economic sectors of Maine.
Music: John Muthyala sings "Katrina" (electronic version), a song he wrote and produced in the wake of Hurricane Katrina to raise civic awareness and send volunteer groups from Maine to New Orleans and the Gulf Coast to help in the rebuilding effort.
