Recently Samira suffered from a tumor in her neck. Beyond being concerning, it also caused her face to droop, and she became depressed. When she saw doctors in Boston they said surgery would be too risky and they should just watch and measure the growth of the tumor. This did not seem right to her. She found a doctor in Portland, Maine who is an ENT surgeon who thought her odds were better. He completed the surgery successfully in April 2015, with excellent results and no negative outcomes.
Samira was so grateful to have been cured that she wrote a public thank you letter to Dr. Matthew Hearst, MD in the Portland Press Herald, had a portrait of him painted as a gift, and asked to come on the air to give thanks.
Music: "Taqsim Magam Ajam" from the album When the Soul is Settled: Music of Iraq by Rahim Alhaj.
